​Nero D'Abruzzo: Recognised as an autochthonous breed, the Nero D'Abruzzo pig is a descendent of the original black pigs brought to Italy over 2000 years ago by the ancient Romans. The breed has been valued by families for its quality and flavour ever since. 

• Free From Preservative: Our products are 100% natural - no artificial preservatives, flavourings or additives.
• Artisanal: Small batch, premium products made in collaboration with craftsmen with generations of experience.
• Aged Without Haste: We allow the time needed for our products to cure to perfection over 700m up in the mountains of Abruzzo

HEALTH

• Foraging/Active Lifestyle: Immersed in the bountiful woodland, our pigs are constantly on the move to find their next tasty treat, including acorns, shoots, roots and nuts
• Natural Diet: In addition to Foraged food, our pigs are fed according to a secret recipe of pulses, beans, greens and other locally sourced cereals.
• Pure Air & Water: We are located in a secluded valley in the mountains, removed from the pollution of industry & traffic.
• No Antibiotics or Hormones: Thanks to our wholesome husbandry methodology, we do not use hormones or antibiotics on our Nero D'Abruzzo pigs.

ETHICAL

• Free to roam: We are constantly working to amplify the living areas of our pigs, with the goal of providing a minimum of 1000m2 of land for every pig that is free roaming.
• Never Caged: While other farms claim to be 'all'aperto' they still use farrowing cages. We however keep our sows out doors where they and their piglets can move freely together.
• Natural Habitat: Over the last 2000 years. black pigs such as our Nero D'Abruzzo, have lived symbiotically in woodlands much like the oak woodland areas where our pigs live  and thrive today. 
• No Intensive Rearing Practices: We pride ourselves in prioritising the well being of our pigs above the additional profit that can made through using what we consider cruel and inhumane methods.
• Conservation of an Ancient Abruzzese breed: Having been on the brink of extinction, we are now one of a very small number of farms passionately working to revive the use of the Nero D'Abruzzo pig.

Production Standards

Our products are made at our partner location which hold both BRC certification and an excellent score for IFS, international standards relating to the safety and quality of food products. They believe in quality and have a strong continuous improvement policy and procedures. The also guarantee that the products are gluten and lactose free and do not work with animals reared on antibiotics and hormones.
